Materials & Features

Base Materials & Features

The basic substrate plays a huge role in the performance of the final product. The number one priority is quality.

Cold-Rolled Steel (CRS)

Enclosed or lightly exposed locations require the substrate of choice-cold-rolled steel. It provides a flat surface, ideal for painting. It is mechanically very strong due to its fine grain structure and can be easily bent and formed.

Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel (HDG)

Galvanised steel is coated with pure zinc which acts as a sacrificial defence against rust. It is a good defence in outdoor conditions against oxidation , and the basis of PPGI steel coil. “It works well in urban environments with mild humidity.

Aluzinc / Galvalume Steel (AZ)

Aluzinc is a very durable material, coated with an alloy of 55% aluminium, 43.4% zinc and 1.6% silicon. The steel also becomes extremely heat and corrosion resistant in the process. On this basis the PPGL coil products are designed for use in harsh industrial, coastal and other environments.

Materials & Features

Multi-Layer of Color-Coated Steel Sheet

Each layer has a different function. Durability and longevity are achieved through its multi-layer structure.

Back Coat (Protective Paint)

On the back side to prevent water seepage. It also reduces friction and prevents damage to surfaces when transported and stacked.

Back Primer

Holds the protective cover to the metal base. It improves the adhesive strength and ensures that all surfaces are protected equally over time.

Steel Substrate (Base Metal)

The main structural material is cold rolled steel, either galvanised or aluzinc coated steel. It is also responsible for all the mechanical stresses and determines the weight and strength.

Zinc / Aluzinc Coating

Applied to sheets of galvanised or aluminium by hot dip technique. This coating prevents the surface of the steel from rusting.

Chemical Conversion Layer

A passivation procedure ( no chromate or chrome ) ensures better adhesion between the metal and the primer. It also offers the surface an initial corrosion shield.

Primer Coat

Then the primer is rolled on and baked in the oven. It improves the adhesion between the metal and the topcoat, and provides an additional barrier against corrosion.

Topcoat (Color Paint)

Visible ornamental layer available in polyester, SMP, HDP or PVDF base paint solutions. This layer determines the colour, gloss and weather resistance of the finished off panel.

Materials & Features

PPGL vs PPGI: Key Differences

Both PPGI and PPGL are steel products with coatings , but their basic coatings are vastly different. PPGL steel coil has an aluminium-zinc alloy layer, whereas PPGI steel coil has a pure zinc layer. The only difference is heat performance, corrosion life and application suitability.

Aluzinc / Galvalume Steel (AZ)

PPGI uses hot dip galvanised zinc (HDG) as the coating base. PPGL is made of Gallium/Aluminium Zinc alloy which has 55% of aluminium and 43.4% of zinc. This basic difference explains all performance differences between the two classes.

Corrosion Resistance

PPGL steel is three times better corrosion resistance than PPGI. Perfect for humid, coastal and industrial zones. PPGI likes moderate environments so it is a great fit for indoor applications or city houses.

Heat Reflectivity

PPGL’s aluzinc base has better heat reflectivity than PPGI’s zinc base. Therefore, energy-conscious building designers need to compare the cooling load reduction potential of PPGL and PPGI steel coils.

Cost Difference

PPGI is generally 10-20% cheaper per metric tonne. PPGI is more economical for applications that do not require ultra-high corrosion resistance. PPGL may be more expensive at first but will save money in the long run on large projects.

Why Engineers Rely on This Material

Excellent Corrosion Resistance

Corrosion resistance is excellent because the multi-layer coating method prevents oxygen and moisture from penetrating into the steel core. This keeps rust at bay even in coastal or high humidity areas. PPGL coil sheet products require little maintenance and last for decades.

Lightweight Yet Strong

They are a good alternative to solid metal or concrete due to their high strength to weight ratio. They are a cheaper way of transport, and at the same time, they reduce the structural load on structures. On-site panel management is a breeze.

Wide Color Range

We can offer hundreds of RAL colours on request. A precise roll-coat paint technique is used for a uniform coverage. And you may have more design flexibility without incurring extra finishing costs.

Formability & Easy Processing

The sheets are formable and will not split or peel when cut, rolled or stamped so are easy to work with. This makes them suitable for complex roofing systems and profiles. “PPGI coil has very good formability.

Thermal & Sound Insulation

Steel with a coloured coating is a more energy efficient option when used with insulated panel systems. PPGL steel might absorb less heat because of its reflective surface. This drastically reduces the cooling costs in large industrial buildings.

Eco-Friendly Production

Steel is forever recyclable. Unlike spray painting, the roll-coat method creates almost no waste. Choosing the best color-coated steel sheet is a large topic when it comes to sustainable building methods and reducing construction waste.

Cost-Effective Lifecycle

Less installations, less replacements, less maintenance and less overall project cost. No painting is required on factory finished surfaces. As a result, building schedules are significantly shortened.
